RFID-enabled kiosk to accelerate transaction
1 Mar 2010

A shop selling bicycling products in Charlotte, N.C., has recently installed an RFID-enabled kiosk aiming to reduce the time to be spent waiting in line for available cashier manned by a store employee.  Besides reducing register queues, the system also intended to improve shop security and enhance inventory management.

Upon arrival of each product, an RFID label with price and other information stored is attached on the packaging, a customer can have a choice of either to check out at a manned register or at the RFID self-service kiosk, and the latter is equipped with an RFID reader to capture the tag detail. As expressed by the shop manager, the system has been working up to satisfactory levels.
