Biometrics to enhance vote system in Gambia
1 Mar 2010

Alhaji Mustapha L. Carayol, the Chairman of Gambia’s Independent Electoral Commission, has recently announced the utilisation of a new biometric voter registration system to combat fraud identity and to conduct a free, fair and transparent election starting with the 2011 election, according to the article.

The new system records a voter’s fingerprint and photo during registration on both the voting card and on the voter’s roll, double or even multiple registrations will easily be identified. The biometric system aims to replace the existing instant Polaroid camera and films with cold laminate pouches registration system that proved to be inefficient.
