RFID offers advanced tracking solution at prison
19 Apr 2010

Hardin County Jail in Eldora, Iowa has recently upgraded its RFID system with high-frequency RFID wristbands in order to meet the strict guidelines set forth by government-based departments, including records of injury, sickness and suicide incidents.

Prior to the RFID-enabled solution, officers track each prisoner using paper and pen, however, it is difficult to hand-write every detail and the process is time consuming. The officer can now scan the RFID tag attached to a specific doorway or cell with a portable RFID interrogator, the name of inmates assigned to that location will be displayed, as well as the services required for each individual, such as special medication, thus saving the officer a great amount of time.
