The Mexican government has recently announced that the nation will start to adopt biometric ID program in summer 2010, enrolling 110 million citizens, said the article. Biometrics including iris, fingerprint and facial characteristics will be collected for identification purposes.
In order to accommodate the enrollment process, around 3,000 enrollment centers will be set up and government facilities will install enrollment kiosks. The multi-modal capability makes Mexico’s system different from that in other countries, which mostly based on fingerprint and facial features.
