RCG Holdings Limited (HKSE:802, AIM:RCG), an international provider of biometric and RFID products and solution services with a primary focus in the Asia Pacific markets, is pleased to announce that its subsidiary, RCG China Limited, has successfully organised the 2009 Forum on Development and Application of Internet of Things (“IoT”) under the theme “Comprehensive Perception, Reliable Transmission and Intelligent Processing". The Forum was held on 16 December in Beijing Shangrila Hotel.
The forum was supported by the Identification Manufacturer Association Of China (IMA China) and was attended by over a hundred participants including the Ministry of Information Industry and Information Technology Promotion Division, Information Technology Department of Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Science and Technology, China EAN Centre, Identification Manufacture Association Of China, as well as research institutes and industry leaders who all share an interest in the development of IoT.
The Internet of Things is a concept in computing which describes the intelligent management and operation of a network of objects (such as electronic devices) using the internet. According to Forrester Research, the global market value of IoT-related technologies, products and applications will increase from US$2 billion in 2008 to US$11.5 billion in 2012.
The forum attracted industry leaders who provided insight into the future of IoT and its potential.. Mr. Zhang Chenghai, Director of GS1 China and Chairman of AIM China, presented his views on automatic identification technology and IoT. Dr. Chen Baoguo of the Development Research Centre of the State Council spoke about the current, challenges facing IoT, and the strategy needed to help realise its full potential with a specific reference to the latest developments in RFID.. Dr. Chen Qingfang, Vice President of Potevio, presented on TD-LTE broadband mobile communication protocol, which is the latest trend in the field. Mr. Zhang Ying, Deputy General Manager of Analysys International, presented his views on the current and potential development of IoT while Mr. Wang Jianxin, Deputy General Manager from Aspire Technology, shared his thoughts on how mobile technology is influencing and changing our everyday life. Mr. Liu Hao, Vice President of Sales from RCG, shared his views on the concept of IoT and discussed how RCG implemented the concept in its Bank Data Centre Solution.
RCG has realised the potential of the IoT concept and has been planning its first move into the IoT industry. Through successful implementation and contract wins, RCG has amassed extensive experience in this field and has successfully created a demand for IoT applications by promoting the industry’s development. RCG has already developed a variety of solutions and successful applications in the vertical industries in which IoT operates.
Besides inviting industry leaders and prominent figures to deliver keynote speeches, the Forum also created a platform for an interactive discussion led by experts from RCG, Analysys International, The Development Research Centre of State Council, Potevio Institute of Technology, and Aspire Technology. The discussion covered issues including RFID, TD-LTE, 3G and other areas where there is a convergence of technologies. One of the key discussion points was on how to clarify the role of RFID in IoT, and how best to overcome barriers in the development of this industry in China.
The Forum enabled participants to gain a better understanding of the development of IoT and how RCG, as a leading RFID and biometric solutions provider of Asia-Pacific region, has established itself as a pioneer in this industry. Participants were informed on the status of the developments of IoT, the potential problems, bottleneck, market prospects, the industry players and competition and other issues. This Forum has helped to create public understanding and awareness of IoT and thus promoting the application and its development in China.
